Stop procrastinating and boost your productivity.

It is rightly said that “procrastination is the thief of time.” The more one delays, the guiltier one feels. Of course, it also hampers one’s productivity. Many realize this, blame themselves yet get trapped in this cycle. I do have a simple yet effective solution to this.

Making a checklist along with a deadline is a great help when it comes to procrastinating. A checklist sets a target and gets your brain into action. When you know you have to accomplish some tasks by the end of the day, you work towards it. Ticking off a task on the list gives a sense of accomplishment: Target achieved! That very sense of accomplishment becomes a booster. The more tasks you get done with, the more you will find yourself working to tick off the entire checklist. Bottom line: let the accomplishment of one task become your motivation to complete the next, and the next, and the next, and… hey, the list is ticked off! Congratulations! You can have a rest. J

A common error while making such a list is about setting priorities in random order. This just makes the work harder. That is where assigning a deadline to each task comes in handy. Also, make sure you make a list of a day or two. Remember: one day at a time. Looks small and achievable. A huge list will make you think that you have a loooooooooooooot to do making you go bonkers by just looking at the list. I am sure you don’t want the solution to make you crazier than you already are. :p

While making the list, write the tasks that must be done in a day or two and write a deadline ahead of it. Analyze how much time you may need to complete a task and when it is to be submitted. Do your tasks in that order. As you complete a task, tick it off the list. This will also stop you from doing a task that is to be submitted 5 days later as compared to the one that is to be submitted the very next day. Been there done that? I know. ;)

The same solution can be used by anyone for any task. You can schedule your outdoor tasks and if possible, combine multiple tasks that can be done in one trip. I have used this solution and still use it many times. It works like magic and many times, it leaves me with a lot of time for myself; if not immediately but after some days after being consistent, it sure does.

P.S.: this simple solution works only on one condition: by being true to yourself, your work, and by being consistent. Keep the bigger picture in mind and it will push you. Also, as bad habits are tempting so are good habits. Once you get this sense of accomplishment, it will push you to do better. You will stop procrastinating before you know it. Best wishes!
