Akshat went riding on his bicycle every morning. It was his habit. He found freedom in the pedals. While riding on the road, he came across a roadside restaurant. Every day when he passed the restaurant, he saw the owner pouring a hot steaming cup of tea and giving it to a beggar. He saw this every day. He was accustomed to seeing this happen once in a blue moon but every day, that surprised him. Out of curiosity, he once waited at the restaurant to talk to the owner about this. What the owner told him greatly changed his view:
You see, there is a
temple exactly opposite my restaurant. It is apparent that any person in the
world wants a great start to a day and wishes the maximum profit in a day. To do
the same, people have their own beliefs and way of starting their day’s trade. I
had my way too. The very first cup of tea that I made was offered to god. I took
the cup of tea to the edge of the road and pour it on the road, as if I was
giving it to god to take his blessings and then, I used to pour water on it so
that it gets washed away. I did this every day and always thought that it was
the ideal way to seek blessings of the divine.
A few days earlier,
this beggar started visiting my restaurant just during this same time. I ignored
him at first handing him a rupee or two. One day, I noticed him and realised
that his clothes are torn to the very T. I observed that he kept looking at me
till I poured the cup of tea as an offering and when I turned, he had left.
Something struck me. In
the morning when I didn’t get my tea on time, I felt annoyed. It felt l missed
out on something and getting my tea on time was an indicator of a good start of
the day. And here I was getting a chance to make someone else’s day better by offering
a cup of tea. Such a simple thing to do and yet I never took note of it. I kept
pouring tea on the road thinking I was making an offering to god and here I had
a chance to feed god every day. Doesn’t god reside in humans?
Akshat knew he had heard something simple yet extraordinary. He realised that a person has to see the reality of the world and help other person. Rather than an offering which no one would eat, a better option would always be to make sure some human consumes it. That way, the satisfaction of having fed a needy would be unparalled and god may really bestow his blessings on us. And hey you! Thanks for being here. Means a lot.
