Gone are the days when streams in education equalled intelligence, isn’t it? NO! Though it is correct that the scope of varied subjects has widened when we look at them as careers, has the mindset widened?
Science students do get a lot of backing when
it comes to their studies and their being busy, and arts to wo log lete hain jinse jyada padhai nahi hoti… NO! If so,
then why is it that being a science student is equivalent to a lot of studying?
The answer is simple: being a science student
is, in reality, equivalent to a busy schedule but not self-study. To add to it,
when a student attends coaching classes, he looks outright busy. Subah 4 ghanta classes karega, fir college
jayega jahape wo adha to timepass karega, aur fir practicals attend karke ghar
aa jayega. Iske baad shayad extra classes bhi attend karega. All in all,
this so-called studying is nothing but attending lectures to gather information
for self-studying. Irrespective of the stream, the gathered information has to
be translated into knowledge by self-studying by the student itself.
Commerce and Arts students on the other hand
attend lectures in college. Whereas commerce students can opt for extra
coaching, this doesn’t apply to arts. It is all about self-study when it comes
to arts; though the funda of self-study is applicable to all.
Yes, it is true that as compared to science
students, commerce and arts students get more time. This surplus time must be
used by a student to hone his/her skills and learn something extra that will
prove to be a strong backup when the time comes.
Students who don’t study are present across
streams. I have seen an Arts student studying (self-studying) more than a
science student: studying that includes more than the textbook: out-of-the-box
reading, and gathering information of the world because the exam will ask more
than what is present in the syllabus. I have seen a commerce student investing
time in studying equivalent to a science student, and I have also seen a science
student who studies sacrificing everything for the better future. It is the
schedule of a science student that creates the delusion, and the one who wants
to make a better future will study irrespective of the stream chosen.
There is no future without hard work and be it
any stream, hard work matters. Just because someone is in a bank or a newspaper
editor doesn’t mean that that person hasn’t worked hard. It is just as much
hard work as any other profession.
I request students and parents to not be
opinionated and think freely. After all, your kids are the future of the
country as well as of your homes.

Thank You sir....Thank you for this blog.
ReplyDeleteHope people change their mindset....waiting for a time when discrimination will end here 😅
ReplyDeleteEye opening article.
DeleteWhichever is the stream, your focus should be very clear,so is the ultimate goal which can be easily achieved with consistent self study.
I totally agree to this blog!!! I feel that 'quality' of the knowledge gained should be given more importance than the 'quantity', irrespective of which stream, vocation or course is chosen by any student.
ReplyDeleteI am totally agree with the blog . Thankyou for clearing the bad mindset of the people about science and commerce students. think that gaining knowledge is important then from which stream it is gained Hope people change their mindset....waiting for a time when discrimination will end here
ReplyDeleteAs far as I understand; commerce or arts are cousins of Science and so the debate of Science Vs Arts / Commerce and which one is better than that other takes us to the dead end. Science is based on facts, so does arts or commerce. If Secience seeks answers in the outer world, so does commerce. Yet, arts is a journey within. So students from all these three branches need an equal depth of study...not a penny less not a penny more.
